My Favourite Camera (and why I sold it)

“You never know what you’ve got, until it’s gone.”

Back in 2016, I purchased my beloved Fuji X100s, I’d never been a Fujifilm fan until the X series came out in mirrorless. The styling, capability and size of them just totally blew me away.

Why Did I Get The Fuji X100S?

I’d spent years chained to a hefty DSLR kit with multiple lenses, flashes, and bags of accessories and I was finding I was only using a portion of this kit regularly. It was time to switch approaches and streamline.

The Fuji X100s is wonderfully designed, and fits so well in the hand. It taught me to be a better, more patient, photographer – due to it having a fixed 23mm lens (effectively 35mm on the APS-C sensor).

Reasons For Giving Up The Fuji X100S

It made me think more about what I was shooting and the positions I chose. Being on a fixed focal length I had to move more often and think about the best angle for composition. I highly recommend fixed focal lengths for anyone who wants to get more involved in their photography.

There was always a worry that if the lens got damaged then that would be the end of the whole camera too, so there was a risk of being over-protective which played on my mind.

Over time it was starting to show its age (as it was a pre-owned model), and the autofocus started to slow a tiny touch, but noticeably. It was such a shame as it was a wonderful camera and I’m so glad Fuji continued with this X series and brought out the X100T, X100V, and hopefully more in time.

Would I Go Back?

Would I go back to Fujifilm, heck yes, in a heartbeat – providing I could directly replace all my current kit and lenses for equivalents.

I’d love to know what your favourite camera is, or your dream one.
