Not that long I put together the final touches to my eBook Soulinema: The Art of Visualisation in Photography and it’s available to download for free for all subscribed followers.
The book explains my approach to photography. It’s a fairly common question I get asked by photographers – ‘how do you ‘see’ a good shot?’ and its a nearly impossible question to answer, because every photographer will have a different answer.

Explaining Visualisation
I believe that photography comes from feelings, emotions, thoughts, dreams, inspiration and other non-tangible things. It’s not a case that only certain moments make a good photo, because if that were true, then there would be a limit to the types of photos we’d take – and everyone would love them.
But we don’t. Not everyone loves my photos, and I don’t mind that. I don’t expect adulation and constant praise because my photography needs to reach the right audience who feel, think and emote in the same way.
Visualisation is the process of creating a story with a camera and computer that more closely represents your feelings from when you pressed the shutter button. It’s not a straight-up documental version of a photo, but a more artistic, conceptual and emotive editing that looks more like what you ‘saw’ in your mind, rather than with your eyes.

What is ‘Soulinema: The Art of Visualisation’ About?
And this is what Soulinema was written for. It’s to explain my thought process, and why the art of visualisation in photography may be the right style for you.
It might be a case that you feel you can’t capture what you felt from a moment. Soulinema is all about how to bring that emotion through when it comes to post-production and how you shouldn’t see the camera’s version as the end product.
There is a lot more that can be altered in a photo to bring out more atmosphere, emotion and ultimately your impression of a moment. And what is photography but not the expression of the photographer’s feelings?

What Else is in the eBook?
Soulinema: The Art of Visualisation came around from my inability to accurately explain in a single video. I felt it would be better to write down my feels and use visual explains and give you links to help you reach your visualisation too.
It’s not a very long eBook, you’ll be able to read it in an hour or two – but its what you take from it afterwards is the most important thing. Maybe the process of visualisation in photography isn’t right for you, but until you’ve learned about it, only then can you make a decision on what kind of photographer you are.
I’ve included links to courses and resources where you can hone your editing and visualisation skills. But in truth, more will be learnt through practise over time. Don’t expect to read the book and you instantly become a better photographer, everything in art takes time. If it didn’t everyone would be a great artist.

How Can I Download Soulinema?
I’ve made the book free to download for all subscribed followers. Simply scroll to the bottom, add your email address to the box below and I’ll email you the download link within 24 hours.
And once you’ve read it, I would love to get your feedback too. While I’ve been a photographer writer for years now this is the first eBook I’ve ever written from myself and I’ve got more ideas brewing.
Are More eBooks Coming?
I want to create a collection of eBooks that help explain or remonstrate some of the feelings you might be feeling as a photographer as to WHY we do the things we do.
– Why do we take photos like this…
– Why do black & white photos feel different…
– Why is composition important?
– Why, Why, Why….
I want to answer these questions by digging into the human psychology and explain how your audience works and what makes them tick. By understanding your audience (and yourself) you can craft images that evoke your feelings and reach out to others on an almost spiritual level.
